Artist Joe Strickland

Well-known locally and a rapidly rising star among art critics and collectors on the West Coast, Joe Strickland continues to attract serious attention in the art community. His blends of intense colors, shapes and hints of natural objects and images, arouse the eyes with colorfully melodic sensations.

Throughout the past decade, Strickland has focused on printmaking, refining various water-based techniques inventing a very unique way to produce brilliant colors and textures. His controlled application of water-based pigments applied to oil-based surface results in varied natural reactions that occur when combining water and oil. He states, “This medium allows me to let go of the process and create images by means of spontaneous invention.”

Strickland’s latest works stretch from architectural form to abstract shapes, depicting poignant images that move the mind, heart and soul. As he continues to push the limits of his novel technique, Strickland says “It keeps getting better as I let the medium take over. In the past, I would attempt to make the medium fit within my parameters. Now, I let it do its own thing and the outcome is astounding.” This approach has been leading him to new and expressive imagery pleasing to those who appreciate both representational as well as abstract art.

Strickland’s latest work has evolved into a unique and recognizable style, drawing the attention of fellow artists and many private and corporate collectors. Strickland’s latest endeavors entail the development of the medium to fit the larger formats demanded by his clientele. Strickland’s images have only recently become available on large canvases as well as limited-edition prints.
